Textiles and Costumes

Reimagining costume design through fashion and textile innovation

These projects explore the potential of textiles and materials in performing arts like opera, music, and video. They blend body, character, and movement with different disciplines, often starting from raw materials and thinking creatively. Through collaboration with fashion and textile partners, traditional techniques are fused with innovative materials and design.

This project reimagines opera as an immersive cultural experience, aiming to move beyond its traditional perception as "high art" and re-establish it as a dynamic social space.

The project was commissioned by Fondazione Teatro Donizetti, Bergamo, and was developed in partnership with the textile company Gruppocinque in Como, bringing in unique expertise in traditional weaving techniques and in textile innovation.

The goal of this project was to explore the intersection of opera, fashion, and drama, creating a bridge between historical and contemporary styles and fostering a deeper connection between music, performance, and audience.

The approach focused on blending historical and contemporary elements, specifically examining the relationship between past and future, classical dress, and modern fashion. This was achieved through collaboration with Gruppocinque to create textiles that integrate traditional techniques with technological innovations, such as UV-reactive pigments and technical fabrics.

The project resulted in a distinctive textile collection combining classical motifs with modern technological elements, enriching the visual and emotional experience of opera. The integration of innovative materials and techniques opened new avenues for contemporary fashion and performance.
